Nomads in a Field

About Nomads

Nomads in a Field 2019 is our 3rd annual Jewish outdoors summer festival weekend. Inspired by Limmud in the Woods, it’s the perfect occasion to celebrate the summer, nature, and being together with friends and family.

In the beautiful Kent countryside, Nomads is for all ages and all members of our community: affordable, accessible and inclusive. Camping and "glamping" encouraged, but indoor dorm-style and group accommodation is also available, plus a barrier-free disability accessible room. If it rains, we’ve got lots of indoor activity rooms, including an indoor pool, music & arts rooms, and more!

Nomads is committed to environmental sustainability, Tikkun Olam, community learning, volunteering and social action. We look forward to seeing you in the field!

Registration for Nomads 2019 - 23rd to 26th of August - is now open! Residential capacity is limited so please book soon to avoid missing out.

Founded in 2017, Nomads in a Field is a run by Nomads Community Events, a 100% volunteer led independent UK not-for-profit Jewish community association.

We partner with existing community groups representing a wide range of interests, such as Grassroots Jews, Keshet, Sadeh Farm and others who want to foster a growing love for the UK’s Jewish & sustainable festival pop-up community.

We are run by the community and for the community. If you’re a community organisation or an enthusiastic volunteer, please get in touch if you’d like to partner with us!

Our weekend & festival event programme includes Shabbat, guest talks, adult & family sessions, bonfires, sing-alongs, kids programming, dance lessons, guided meditation, outdoor activities, swimming and more.

For families - We have supervised kids programming, for both parents’ and kids’ enjoyment. We welcome participants and parents to run age-appropriate kids activities such as music & singing, games and arts & crafts. If you would like to run such a session, please let us know ASAP.

If you are interested in leading an adult, family or kids session, please get in touch! After the Early bird registration rate expires, Nomads presenters are eligible for special price registration rates.

Residential and day participants: Delicious vegetarian + vegan kosher meals and hot drinks are provided during Nomads. Please notify us of any allergies or dietary restrictions when registering to ensure we can accommodate. The kitchen on site is fully kosher all year round. Meals are provided by the site's professional catering team.

For families – There is dairy and plant based milks available for kids, as well as limited fridge space to keep special children’s food only (not for general participant use) – All kids’ food stored in the on-site fridges must be kosher and vegetarian.

Vegetarian & kosher foods may be brought to Nomads. Shops in Orpington are just a short drive away. Be aware of wildlife when storing food as Nomads can't take responsibility for visiting critters if you've left snacks out! As per site rules, non-kosher foods are not permitted on site.

The site includes a year-round Eruv, which is regularly inspected, covers the facility buildings, and sections of the camp-ground and parking areas.

Nomads has lots of spaces and places for children and young adults: kids’ playground & obstacle course, arts & crafts room, swimming pool, zip-wire, tennis court, and the organic allotment. The site is a long-standing family retreat centre with kids in mind.

Depending on the age-ranges of registered participants, Nomads is adapting programming to suit interests and needs. Please contact us if you have questions or want more info for your family or youth group.

Nomads 2019 runs from Friday the 23rd of August til Monday the 26th.

Thanks to generous sponsors and donors, Nomads has been able to offer a number of full and partial bursaries to unwaged individuals and single-parent families who are not currently able to afford the full cost. We also offer subsidised registration for people who need accessible accommodation for disabilities or medical conditions. Your donation, large or small, will help this happen.

Nomads Community Events is an unincorporated not-for profit association with charitable objects but is not yet a registered UK charity so at this time it is not possible to apply gift aid to these donations.

Your generosity helps us make Nomads accessible to more members of our community.
